Growing the Next Generation of Land Stewards: MNSS Registered Apprenticeship Program
At Missouri Native Stewardship Services, stewardship means investing in both the land and the people who care for it.
Our Registered Apprenticeship Program gives employees the opportunity to build a career in ecological land management through paid, hands-on experience, structured instruction, and mentorship from experienced professionals.
The program combines practical field knowledge with a deeper understanding of native ecosystems—helping apprentices develop the skills needed to restore, establish, and manage resilient landscapes throughout Missouri and Central Illinois.

About Us
What Apprentices learn
MNSS apprentices complete a two-year program combining paid, on-the-job learning with 288 hours of related technical instruction. Training progresses from foundational ecological landscaping skills to advanced fieldwork, licensing preparation, project planning, and leadership.

Year One: Foundational Training
- Ecological landscaping principles
- OSHA and field safety
- Native plant and invasive-species identification
- Responsible herbicide application
- Mechanical vegetation-management tools
Pollinator gardens, pocket prairies and stormwater projects
Year Two: Advanced Field Skills
- OSHA 30 and advanced safety leadership
- Missouri commercial pesticide license preparation
- Sprayer operation and equipment calibration
- Chainsaws, forestry cutters and advanced mowing equipment
- Prairie, riparian-buffer and solar-field stewardship
- Monitoring and adaptive land management
- A final capstone stewardship project
