Growing up spending afternoons and weekends mowing lawns, working in the family gardens or exploring the outdoors Chuck’s depth of knowledge of the ecological world is reflected in every project. For almost ten years, Chuck and Kerry, his wife, have affectionately called the Caverly Bend their home and retreat. The Bend has become a working lab for native species, invasive weed control, and regenerative agriculture. By no means a big property, the Maryland Heights residence is home to over 115 woody plant species and cultivars in addition to over 200 species of herbaceous perennials. Bordered by a riparian corridor on two sides, the Caverly Bend is an evolving work in progress. Each season finds Chuck and Kerry capturing rainwater for the gardens and greenhouse, battling invasives and erosion on the riparian corridor in addition to increasing the native footprint of the Bend.
